 Mission Statement

The purpose of the Texas Gourd Society is to promote interest in and appreciation of gourds, both to our membership and to the general public. We will do this by sharing information through education, meetings, festivals and shows related to the culture, history, uses, crafting and artistry of gourds.

How We Operate

The Texas Gourd Society (TGS) operates local "patches" across the State of Texas where our members meet to learn and share gourd art techniques. TGS membership is $15/year and anyone is eligible to attend a patch meeting to talk to members or attend a workshop. Patches typically meet monthly or bimonthly.

Call or email a patch leader for information about the meeting location and content. We would love to hear from you!

Spring Meeting

TGS meets annually in the spring for a one day board meeting that also includes mini workshops, gourd demonstrations and general swap meet. All members are invited to the  meeting and it is held in a central Texas location. The meeting announcement and location is emailed out to the membership ahead of time.

Lone Star Festival

TGS hosts the Lone Star Gourd Festival in the summer or fall.  The festival is a 3-4 day event featuring a gourd art competition, gourd art sales, gourd supplies, technique classes and lots of fun. The festival is held at the New Braunfels Convention Center. The competition and vendor booths are inside as are most of the classes. Carving and woodburning classes are held outside on a covered patio. The festival is open to the public and anyone can enter the competition.
