Blanche’s interest in gourd art started about 5 years ago when she retired and decided to try doing pyrography.   Her husband, Roy Cavarretta, who retired a year earlier was using his pen and ink skills to do pyrography on gourds. Her skills grew and soon, she was selling her work at the local Arts and Craft Shows and two Texas Art Galleries.  Blanche currently has work featured at a gallery in addition to doing juried art shows.

Blanche uses pyrography, relief carving and coiling to create her art.

She has received awards as follows:

2014 - Second-place - Lone Star Gourd Festival - Advanced Division

2014 - Third-place, and Honorable Mention - Lone Star Gourd Festival –Advanced Division

2015 - Second-place, and Third-Place (category) - Lone Star Gourd Festival – Advanced Division

2016 - Two First-place ribbons, and a Third-place - Lone Star Gourd Festival – Advanced Division

Blanche is a member of both the American Gourd Society and Texas Gourd Society.  She also serves as Treasurer for the Texas Gourd Society.

Blanche and Roy are active promoters of the art form and give frequent demonstrations to school children, associations and garden clubs. They have also taught gourd art classes.
