I have been creating art in one form or another
since childhood. Though primarily a beadwork artist, once introduced to gourds
I fell in love with them. My inspiration comes from my Lakota heritage and
I have found that traditional seed beads and gourds welcome each other. I
began working with gourds on a limited basis in 1998 and have since developed
a technique for beading directly on and thru the gourds. Since 2002 they
have started taking over as a favorite canvas for beadwork combined with
pyrography. I have also written and self published a book that teaches four
beading techniques and how to apply them for use on gourds.
I have no formal art training or education, I was taught beadwork by
my Lakota grandparents and extended family. Thru them I learned many of the
traditional skills such as making rawhide and brain tanning leather, quill
work, painting with earth pigments, and some weapon making skills. I consider
myself fortunate to be able to make a living thru sales of my work. Much
of it graces the homes of collectors across the U.S. and Europe. I have won
numerous awards and worked with my mother and sister to create some of the
most visually stunning gowns ever created for the Tyler Rose Festival throughout
the late 70’s and 80’s. My work and book can be purchased directly
thru me at my temporary web site

A new web site is in the works, as time permits.
