Born in Collin County, Texas in 1938 to a Scotch/Irish mother and a Comanche/
Cherokee father I was the sixth of nine children. At the age of six, I was
placed in Buckner Orphan’s Home after the death of my mother. I graduated
from there at seventeen years of age. Then, I attended the Baylor School
of Radiological Technology in Dallas; the Seton Hospital School of Radiological
Technology in Austin and two years later, I returned to Dallas. I became
employed at Texas Children’s Hospital (now Children’s Medical Center) where
I retired after nearly 45-years of service. I have five children and
eleven grandchildren.
Horses have always been an integral part of my life, as has my artwork.
I am self-taught and have dabbled in oils as well as water color. I love to
sketch and do pen and ink work. Since horses are so much a part of me, they
are what I depict the most; they are my favorite subject. I have bred, trained
and showed for most of my adult life.
I became enamored and fascinated with gourds 12-15 years ago. They are
warm to the touch, and a fantastic, versatile canvas for my art. Gourds
will speak to you if you are listening; they wait patiently to become a
masterpiece in your hands and with your touch. Pieces of my gourd art are
in private collections in Germany, France, Canada and throughout the United
States. Some of my earliest work was sold at
The Arrangement in Dallas.
I support many local powwows each year as a vendor, the TGS show, Texas Indian
Market and a few select fine art shows.
Most days you can find me working 10-12 hours in my studio. I feel
the need to create as much as possible. I currently reside in Valley View
with my horses, American Staffordshire Terrier and several cats. My
work is available directly through me and on my website:
