ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tony Landon McGregor, Ph.D. has always been involved in many things; using his hands, he is constantly experimenting with art.  His favorite medium is mixed media.  For the last twenty-five years, Dr. McGregor traveled to West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah; these areas have greatly influenced his way of artistic thinking.  The most prominent artists who had influenced him significantly are Georgia O'Keefe and Francisco de Goya of Spain.  In addition, he often visits Native American friends and people residing in the Great Southwest. These individual’s culture and folklore continue to fascinate him.

Tony received his B.A., B.F.A., M.Ed. and Ph.D. degrees at the University
of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin). He also attended Gallaudet University for
a short time (1976-1977). For several years, he worked as a resident artist-in-education at the Austin Museum of Art in Texas.  Artworks by
Dr. McGregor, also known as "Tony Mac," have been featured at national and international exhibitions such as the "Elements of Deaf Culture," Deaf Way II, the Texas Gourd Society State Shows and Texas Indian Market 2007.  He rendered the illustrations in children’s books such as Victory Week, Deaf Culture: A to Z, The "I Love You" Story, Hearing Loss: An Alphabet Book, and American Sign Language Coloring Book. In addition to teaching Deaf children in a public school outside Austin, he travels nationwide, promoting BuTo Limited Company Publishers, which he co-founded; and, during his spare time, he paints various Southwestern themes or wood-burns gourds.
