Betty is a native from Austin, TX. At one time, she lived in
Michigan and Colorado. She has always been involved in the art
world with oil paintings, watercolors, pastels and scratch art.
After retirement, she and her husband moved back to Austin. Betty
learned about the gourd world when she went to some of the Texas Gourd
Society Festivals which were held in Austin at that time.
Following her husband's death, she moved to Kerrville. Here, she
began her “gourding” experiences. She and her sister went to the
Gourd Artist Gathering in Cherokee, NC where Betty attended several
classes and returned home with a load of gourds, supplies and
tools. She has acquired a collection of numerous ribbons awarded
for her winning gourd creations in the Texas Gourd Society competition
and the Southwest Gourd Fine Art Shows in Kerrville. She is best
known and recognized for her dot painting and use of bright colored
beads on gourds. Betty's gourd creations are sold in galleries
along with her knotted scarves and crocheted afghans.
